WCC 197-6
Match
drawn.
Those of us
who chose to take a day off work faced an exhausting afternoon of leather
chasing, not to mention leather retrieving from the hedge. There was also a
good deal of diving over the leather as it rocketed across the parched outfield
and some instances of the leather being accidentally kicked over the boundary
line and sworn at as it bobbled towards the tennis courts fifty yards away. The
bowlers, too, had a character-building time of it, conceding 256 in 30 overs.
Dibley bowled a heroic 12-over spell which included four dropped catches,
Nickolds of Cambridgeshire Under-17s generated good pace while his county
colleague Sewell was unlucky (or lucky depending on how you view it) to be
taken out by a meatily-struck drive to the forehead in the second over. Despite
gloomy predictions, batting conditions were just as favourable to the visitors,
and Weekenders newcomer number three, Mark Lewis, led the reply with an
unbeaten 72. Honour was satisfied with the Weekenders 197-5 at the end of the
final 20.
