ACTORS TAKE CENTRE STAGE IN WEAKENDERS FLOPPEROO

There’s a joke about an actor’s dog turning up for a dogfood audition. I can’t remember the details but it ends with him shagging three of the other dogs, eating the props and asking if he can go home early.

But before we get onto Brockis and Sackville’s contribution to this year’s game against Hit Or Miss let’s look at the plusses that came out of it. Corey Swift’s lively, bang-in bowling promises quality chatting-in-the-slips time for the club’s ageing seam attack. Vickery once again saved our blushes, and debutant Nick McBride proved to be an all-rounder of real class. Lyons’ perky 12 got the monkey off his back and sent it packing to the station with the black trainers in its kitbag.

Possible candidates for this year’s black trainers award for disappointment include the other seven Weekenders, notably Brockis who successfully avoided buying a drink or paying his match fee and Sackville who failed to turn up at all. In fairness there were worse performances than these in this turkey of a show. It barked, it hummed, it sucked donkeys and blew chunks. Dropped catches, comical overthrows and shots rash beyond the help of fungicidal cream all ensured the hosts were never out of the game.

If the weekenders had a dog you’d take it out and shoot it.
